Listen to the Podcast version:
A niche is to having a specific outcome with the client’s we’re working with. For example, if the clients are for life coaching, the niche will be life coaching and if the clients are for mindset coaching, the niche will be mindset coaching. It is about deciding which niche you want to get into.
A life coach or a mindset coach could actually be doing the same thing. Let’s dive into why is that and how to decide what to call yourself as well
First, ensure you have the right training. It’s really important when training as a coach, to ensure that the training is not restricting in any way. Making sure that we are covered and aren’t going to come out of the end with only one specific thing. And to make sure that the training supports us, so that we can apply it to any niche that we want.
Second, practice first with clients and got lots of practice clients. The importance of this, is that it allows us to go through a coaching relationship with people, understand what we really enjoy helping people with, and get to know a bit about ourselves. Because it’s also a self-discovery for us, to understand what we love supporting people with and what we may not like. So, it is important to start working with people to understand what we really enjoy doing and what do we want to do more.
Third thing, work out what we want to do and what we love helping people with the most. This is when discovering that a certain outcome a client gets, we feel more called to be moving towards. For example, we’re a parenting coach and were working with parents, then we decided in working with children instead or vise versa. So, it is of great importance to get a practice client, because we can then really understand what we want and enjoy doing.
And lastly, when it comes to calling ourselves, make sure that it is straightforward and really simple. We need to make sure that people understand what we call ourselves. So, for example, when we need to explain to a five-year-old child, they would understand what we do. It doesn’t matter how creative we can be or how creative we are, if our potential client doesn’t understand what we’re calling ourselves and what kind of a coach we are calling ourselves with, then it’s pointless. For us to know whether people understand is either by putting out surveys, putting out post in social media, or just simply by picking up the phone calling and asking people who we practice with, potential clients, or people who we may have work in the past, and do some research on it.
