Do you feel that you have a negative mindset, dealing with negative self-talk or perhaps not feeling good at the moment in terms of the way you are talking to yourself?

Feeling that way is not uncommon. In fact, it’s very normal, and despite everyone constantly talking about mindset, affirmations, mantras, favorite quotations to maintain a positive mindset, we still feel that way.

So, how can you change your mindset?

1. Be clear on what and how you actually want to change your mindset. There are so many things that you can do, there are so many different ways in which you can change your mindset, and there are so many different reasons on why you want to change your mindset. Become really really clear about why and what is it that you wanna change, and which specific part of your mindset do you want to change. A really good way to figure this out is through journaling, writing out what you’re thinking, what you’re feeling, and what it is that you wanted to change.

2. Pick out some books or blogs that can support you with the specific thing that you wanted to change. Once you’re clear with what it is that you want to change, pick books on Kindle, or find free resources such as blogs that has some resources you can read through specifically on what it is that you want to change.

3. Listen to audios and podcasts, listen or watch YouTube videos. Now, a lot of people would say that they don’t have time to read the book. So, one of the best ways to support you is listening to audios and podcasts, as well exploring YouTube videos. Now, because you already know what specifically it is that you want to change within your mindset, it will be easier for you to pick out resources that are really going to support you with the thing that you needed help with.

If you don’t know where to start, you can head over to the resources here on the website, and if you want more resources, you can head over to www.rebeccalockwood.org.uk where you can find links to download – a free video series which you can watch and listen to, a digital copy of a book for free, and an access to the podcast which you can listen to.

4. Begin to validate yourself from within. This is may be something that you’re already doing, but quite often, what I find is people are searching outside of themselves in order to try and validate who they are, what they are and what they want, what action to take, what to do and even how to feel. So, it is important to check back in within yourself. It can be something as simple as putting your hand in your heart and listening to it from within, feeling the feelings of gratitude, hearing your beating heart. Listening to what you feel and to who you are, and validating yourself from within will really help whatever is the mindset thing that you want to change. When you’re checking within yourself, it will have such a huge impact on the way that you feel which could be the one thing that does make a difference.

5. Learn how you know that you have done a good job at something. Do somebody have to tell you? Do you have to hear someone say it to you? Do you just know within yourself? There’s no right or wrong. We have different personalities and some people like to hear it from somebody else. Yes, it’s a bit of a contradiction to the previous step which is checking within you and validating yourself from within. However, you could still validate yourself from within, but also feel good having someone tell you that you’ve done a good job. Understand how you prefer to be communicated to, and this trickles down to every single mindset. If you know that you prefer somebody else to tell you, in outside perspective, then you can ask that from other people which is completely okay for as long as you’re not completely and ultimately putting all your power outside of yourself.

6. Be kind to yourself. Release all the judgements that you have towards yourself. When you do that, a lot of the negative mindsets that you have will also be released with it. This can be as simple as asking yourself “What can I do to make myself feel better?” when you hear yourself saying negative thing to yourself in your mind.

For example, if you wake up early in the morning and look in the mirror feeling tired, instead of saying “Ugh, I’m so tired.”, you could say, “I’m really tired today. I’m just gonna honor that. What can I do to make myself feel better?” You’re not ignoring how you feel, you’re honoring what’s going on, but you’re also holding no judgment within yourself, you’re holding no negativity towards yourself.

The bottom line is, this isn’t about being positive all the time, it’s about really acknowledging what’s going on and doing something about it.
